Boudoir Photo Session Tips

Today let’s talk about boudoir photo session tips for your hair.

Summer is quickly coming to an end, sorry to bring it up. If you’re anything like me you’ve spent a good deal of time doing all of the fun things that are bad for your hair. Swimming, sunning, and rocking a messy bun all take their toll on your lovely locks. So how do you restore and strengthen your hair in time for your boudoir photo session with me?

Talk to your stylist

Schedule an appointment with your go to stylist right away. In fact, once your on my calendar, the next call you make should be to schedule your pre-session cut and color appointments. This appointment should take place several weeks prior to your boudoir photo session. Talk with them specifically about your hairs health. Tell them what you’re doing and ask for their tips. After all they are your hair pro. Then make sure you get in for a trim and color refresh a week or two before your session as well.

Hair repair

Your hair very likely needs moisture so I suggest looking into a deep conditioning hair mask. I like the Like A Virgin mask from Coco and Eve. Check it out here! Find one that works for your particular hair type and issues you might be having.

Hydrate

I will never not tell you to hydrate. Solid hydration helps with basically everything but is especially beneficial for healthy skin and hair. I’d say it’s a must. Having a hard time remembering to drink your water? There’s an app for that! Or set reminders on your phone. Find a water bottle you like and keep it with you. I keep a glass beside my coffee pot and every time I go for a coffee refill I drink a glass of water. Yes I pee A LOT!

Boudoir Photo Session Tips Things to avoid

A new stylist. Colors you’ve never tried before. Styles you’ve never worn before. Trust me I’ve seen it all. From bad hair cuts to chemically cut hair from inexperience colorists. Generally speaking you want to stick with colors and styles you know you love, from a stylist you trust. Also ditch your pony tail holders and try claw clips or scrunchies (their less damaging than elastics). Release the bun or ponytail and let your hair recover.

Boudoir Photo Session Tips Things to do

Arrive at the studio with clean, completely dry, hair. Consult with me if you have any hair concerns prior to your session. We will discuss them during your style consultation call as well. Remember that hair repair is a long game. There is no overnight fix all. Have some patience and you’re hair can rebound from summer damage.

I hope you’ve found these boudoir photo session styling tips helpful for your hair.
