One of the questions I see over and over this time of year is “What do I do about my tan lines?”
Here is how I approach boudoir session preparation regarding tan lines tan lines and tanning in general. First and foremost practicing a safe sun care routines is not only helpful for your photo session it’s good for your skin. My suggestion for tans is well, don’t!

But also live your best summer life. Go outside! Touch grass, hit the beach, have fun. Tan lines are a part of life in Virginia’s nice warm summers. With Richmond having the river and being so close to places like York river, Virginia Beach and even being an easy drive to OBX you’re bound to have gotten some sun before your boudoir session this year.
IF you get tan lines so be it. It’s not the end of the world and I won’t yell at you about them. And sometimes they can be super hot. It’s like you’re uncovering a part of you that the rest of the world doesn’t get to see.

If a tan goes terribly wrong it can result in extra editing charges.
About tanning beds and spray tans. Spray tans may seem good in theory but much of the time you end up looking far to orange and that will really show in your images. If a spray tan goes terribly wrong (ie oompa loompa orange or blotchy) it can result in extra editing charges. BTW I do not edit tan lines as a rule. If you’ve got em, you’ve got em.
When you do head to the beach/pool/river I suggest tanning into your smallest outfit. By that I mean if you are going to wear a bra and pantie set during your session then wear a bikini (thong or not is up to you) at the beach or pool. Also you may want to avoid swim suits with funky cut outs and straps too. I’ve seen some seriously sexy swimsuits this season with all manor of cut out, criss cross and lace over lay. They are fabulous and are sure to give you a not so fabulous, oddly patterned tan lines.

If you’re really set on avoiding them the absolute best way to do so is to cover up. Big floppy hats are stylish AND keep you protected. So does a light weight rash guard, swimsuit cover or long sleeved linen top. Above all use sunscreen liberally and judiciously. Check the ingredients to make sure you’re using a good one. And reef safe when you’re in the sea.
I’ll make sure you get all the boudoir session preparation, tan lines or not, that you need for your photo shoot. You’ve still got time to get in for your boudoir session this fall/winter. Email me today and let’s start designing the perfect session for you.
